The Geothermal Program is another energy efficiency program we offer. It utilizes the natural heating and cooling power of the earth to save you money year-round. Like any type of heat pump, it simply moves heat energy from one place to another. A geothermal heat pump is like a refrigerator because they work using the same scientific principle. The geothermal heat pump uses refrigeration to remove heat energy stored in the earth and groundwater and transfer it to the home.
The Geothermal Rebate Program has changed starting January 1, 2026. The rebate for new installations and retrofits will be $2,000 per ton; with a total maximum rebate per member of $24,000. Projects larger than 12 tons and all commercial projects will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. The prior rebate for replacement units will be discontinued.
The rebate covers a large portion of the cost of the loop and with the reduced cost of being on our Geothermal Rate 46 the benefits of installing a Geo system over a 30 year period offset any additional cost compared to other heat and air systems.
